Altar Wind - 2005 - Anwyn &
George Leverett (Their 4th CD)
"Inspired by the open, airy, and mystical
qualities of winter, this disc weaves together the magical
sounds of the Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, hurdy gurdy,
bowed psaltery, pennywhistle, and voice. Ever seeking to expand
our musical stylings, George played the wire strung Celtic
harp on several of the songs. This collection features many
medieval, Celtic, and romantic favorites, as well as our own
compositions." ~~A&G (Note
from Ceridwen):After listening to this new CD, I have come
to the conclusion that this is their best one yet - these
two just keep getting better all the time! This CD was inspired
by their trip to American Stonehenge in Washington, and
I was very moved by the depth and evocative nature of their
multi-layered compositions. I love what they say in the
liner notes:
"While
at Stone Henge we felt the breeze play across the stone
altar. We wonder, does the altar make the wind sacred? Or
does the wind make the altar sacred?"

CD: Archives of Ages to Come
by Emerald Rose
“This
CD has been about two years in the creation, and is really
our second full-length studio CD ("Bending Tradition"
being our first, in 2000). Our intent was to focus on original
songs, pulling in mythic themes and a variety of moods.
We find that each song has its own life and its own speed
of development, no matter what we may WANT to happen; "Dagger
of the Moon" has been evolving since before 1998, and
"Three More Drops" since 2001, while "For
Blodeuwedd" came together in less than a week, and
"We Come From Monkeys" in about three months.
We feel that Emerald Rose is changing its style from a Celtic
folk style into more of an "art rock" sound with
Celtic roots. Listeners may find this compilation to be
a bit more in line with groups like Great Big Sea, and you
may hear some classic rock influences from Jethro Tull to
ZZ Top here and there. We’ve had several instrumentation
changes in the last couple of years as well: Logan has introduced
the mandola in more tracks and experimented on guitar with
"Nashville" and other tunings, Larry has been
developing on low whistle and Uilleann pipes, and we’re
using more percussion based around the Roland HandSonic,
often with a more of a "drumkit" rock feel. In
2004, when we had the good fortune to play for the "Return
of the King" Oscars party in Hollywood, we felt it
was important to have a new promotional CD for that event.
We made a mad scramble to put together what new songs we
had developed, along with some "classics" from
previous albums, and the result was "Songs for the
Night Sky" (2004). The response from fans was tremendous,
and helped to reassure us that we were on the right track.
This was intended from the start to be a limited release,
and we always knew these songs (Urania Sings, Come To The
Dance, Gwydion’s Song, and Take Me Down) would appear
on a full-length CD. The versions here have been remixed,
enhanced, and professionally mastered. Finally, we’ve
included three songs drawn from Celtic tradition: Andy M.
Stewart’s "Queen of Argyll" (one of our
favorites from the Silly Wizard days), "Irish Heartbeat"
from Van Morrison and the Chieftains, and an adaptation
of an old folk song "Wheel of Fortune" with some
Tarot-inspired lyrics from Arthur. The development of a
CD is a roller-coaster ride, with moments of sheer delight,
periods of screaming frustration, and long hours of grueling,
carpal-tunnel-destructive work. We hope the end result is
worth it!” ~EMERALD ROSE, August 2005.

CD: Bending Tradition
by Emerald Rose
Emerald
Rose is an energetic, North Georgia Pagan Celtic band who
plays both traditional tunes & original songs derived
from the Celtic tradition. The songs are high-energy, spirited,
& often "eclectic" - but always sung &
played with heart. Their new CD rocks with the best of them.
Track list: 1. Penny in the Well - original, pop with Celtic
undertones; 2. Fire in the Head - fast-paced "mouth
music" piece with Celtic shamanism theme; 3. Lucky
Man - the old Emerson, Lake, & Palmer number, as it
should have been; 4. Green Hills of Garland/Gallagher Lass/Ferrets
Nose - original jigs; 5. Red Haired Mary - a traditional
ballad transformed to modern pop; 6. Pagan Girl - pure pagan
pop; 7. Come by the Hills - a beautiful traditional Irish
ballad; 8. Johnny Cope - a rousing Scottish fighting song;
9. Merry Mayfolk - an upbeat May song with a universal message;
10. Castle of Arianrhod - mysterious delving into Welsh
myth & legend; 11. Freya, Shakti - praise for the Goddess
in her many forms; 12. Unfinished Business - jazz jam with
bouzouki & whistle; 13. Hills of America - an anthem
of the Celtic Diaspora. It is the band’s desire to
help keep the Celtic musical heritage alive and carry it
on into the future. With music like this, the longevity
of Celtic music is assured!

Beneath the Below is a River
by Wendy Rule
A colaboration with Craig Patterson, Beneath the Below is
a River began life as a soundtrack to the short film `Hugo`,
directed by Nicholas Verso. An otherworldy fantasy about
a Moth Boy, the film lent itself to Wendy and Craig`s dark
and dreamy visions. Thye were so pleased with the outcome
of the soundtrack that they expanded it into a full length
album. The result is a beautiful trance-like journey into
the Faerie realm. Wendy`s vocals become an instrument in
themselves, free to explore the texture beyond lyrics.

CD: Best of Pagan Song
by Various Artists
At last,
there truly is a "greatest hits" album of the
past 30 years of Pagan music! Here are the songs that have
shaped the current resurgence of Pagan spirituality. Exclusive
re-mastered tracks include the long-lost original Burning
Times recording and several other rare musical gems from
Gwydion Pendderwen, Catherine Madsen, and Velvet Hammer.
The songs have been culled from literally hundreds of albums
produced by Pagans since the 1970s, and feature popular
musicians Gypsy, Todd Alan, Wendy Rule, Emerald Rose, Avalon
Rising, and many more. They tell our history, and also chart
the evolution of our thought and belief. What makes these
songs Pagan? They may be about the ancient nature religions
of the European continent, they may deal with themes such
as life after death, being Pagan in a Christian world, or
encountering figures from the Spirit realms. With extensive
liner notes detailing the importance of each track and the
artist who created it, this inspiring collection is a must-have
for any Pagan music fan. Track list # Burning Times--Charlie
